LISD to observe Thanksgiving Holiday
The Laredo Independent School District campuses and administrative offices will be closed beginning Monday, November 20, through Friday, November 24, in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

LISD to host Specialty Schools Open House
Laredo Independent School District will be hosting its annual Specialty Schools Open House at each campus for eighth grade students and their parents on Saturday, November 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The seven specialty schools will open their doors to the community and invite eighth grade students to tour the campus and apply for admission for the 2024-2025 school year.
The event is aimed at recruiting students who may be interested in attending any LISD specialty school for the 2024-2025 school year. The seven early college high schools and magnet school include the Business, Industry, and Public Services Early College Academy at Nixon High School, Sabas Perez Early College High School at Cigarroa High School, Dr. Dennis D. Cantu Health Science Early College High School at Martin High School, Hector J. Garcia Early College High School located at Texas A&M International University, Pathways to Technology Early College High School at Cigarroa High School, Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources (AFNR) P-TECH at Martin High School, and the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts Magnet School.
Yesterday we were able inaugurate LISD's very first sensory room! This room helps our special needs students when they get overstimulated in class. Their teacher can pull them out and take them to the sensory room in order to go and release their stress and their emotions! Very big thanks to our superintendent Dr. Rios for making this possible and a big thank you to our very own teacher and now board member Mrs. Orduño for bringing this dream to life! Lastly a big thank you to everyone who made this project possible. We are eternally grateful! GREAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING AT CMS!! GOOOO BULLDOGS!!

Christen Middle School eighth grader Aymar Cantu has been selected for the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza 2023 National Vocal Competition Finals. The 29th Annual Mariachi Vargas National Vocal Finalist Competition is set for Saturday, December 2, at the Lila Cockrell Theater in San Antonio, Texas.
Cantu was among hundreds of musicians to submit an audition video for the preliminary phase of the competition. Aymar is one of 8 talented finalists in the Elementary/Middle School category selected to participate in the National Vocalist Competition.
